LECTURE REPORT 1: CHARACTER DESIGN BASICS

Attack on Titan (TV Series 2013–2023) - IMDb
The visual of "Attack on Titan"

| Plot

Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls that protect them from Titans, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. The story centers around Eren Jaeger and his childhood friends Mikasa Ackermann and Armin Arlelt whose lives are changed forever after the appearance of a Colossal Titan, which brings about the destruction of their hometown and the death of Eren's mother. Vowing revenge and reclaiming the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin join the Scout Regiment, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the Walls.

| Character 

Armin Arlert
 (Arumin Arureruto) is the 15th and current commander of the Survey Corps before their death. He is also a childhood friend of Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman, and one of the two deuteragonists of the series. He is the weakest while in the training, but his intelligence and strategic genius make him valuable. 

Armin has a boyish face, with large hazel eyes and a small pointed nose which is always distinctly a bit red.
His blond hair is styled in a long undercut with bangs over his entire forehead. After that, Armin has noticeable defined eyebrows and sideburns, indicating his age. His frame is same as when he was a boy, relatively small and lacking in muscle. During the attack on Liberio, he is noticeably a bit taller and has his hair cut shorter. As a teen, Armin was rather short for his age, though he had a somewhat defined build. He had a round face with blond hair that is cut in the style of bob and large expressive eyes with brown eyebrows. As a soldier in the Survey Corps, Armin is seen wearing their revamped black uniform for the night raid on Marley.

| Personality

Armin had a strong interest in the outside world than other children, so he was often criticized by others. Because he was too timid, so he often rely on his friends Eren and Mikasa Ackerman to protect him from bullies. Thus, Armin was always very eager to prove himself. When Armin got older he joined the Survey Corps to fulfill his dream to see the outside world. His curiosity has remained a strong personality trait since when he was young.

Armin has low self-esteem during his training years. Armin considered himself to be useless due to his lack of physical strength and skill. After graduation, Armin gains confidence and became a valuable asset to the military, because he can use his brain to help people. Despite this, he is still hard on himself sometimes. 

Armin is loyal and selfless. He always worries about the safety of his friends and prepared to throw himself into dangerous situations to save them or to defeat the Titan. Armin is also very level-headed, keeping Eren and Mikasa under control whenever their emotions get the better of them. He likes to think deeply about situations and solve problems using his mind. 

These personality traits, like his intelligence, good judgment, level-headedness, ability to plan, and creativity, are what make him a great tactician. He is not an extrovert person. When he was suddenly thrown into a leadership role, he got quite anxious and momentarily froze up. And after that, he has slowly become more adept at a leadership role. Armin has shown great investment in humanity's future and is always striving for and thinking about how he can change things for the betterment of mankind.

LECTURE REPORT 2: CHIAROSCURO

        Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (TV Series 2019– ) - IMDb

| Background  

Demon Slayer is a story that happened In Taisho-era Japan. The main character Tanjiro Kamado, a kind boy who sells charcoal was shattered from his peaceful life when a Demon slaughters his family, and his little sister - Nezuko is the only survivor, but she has been transformed into a Demon. Thus, Tanjiro sets out on a dangerous journey to become a demon slayer and to find out the way to let his sister back to normal. After the Final Selection test has passed, he joined the Demon Slayer Corps and met up with Zenitsu, and Inosuke together to their demon slayer journey. They will learn a special way to kill the demon which is the "breathing technique "

| Chiaroscuro in This Animation

The sence I choose is taken from episode 17 of the animation, Demon Slayer. While Zenitsu Agatsuma is on the journey at Mt. Natagumo to search for Nezuko and step into a spooky, dark forested area. He heard a noise and turns around then he was shocked to see a spider with a human face. Zenitsu runs away and saw a tiny house hung by spider web. And beside that are several people who have been poisoned by spider venom. And there is a scary monster which is the Spider Demon told him that he was injected with venom. The poison will change him into a spider in less than an hour. To terrify Zenitsu, the demon walks through him and explains the details of the transformation minute by minute.


Zenitsu's hair starts falling out and passes out from the fear. The spider demon believes Zenitsu is going to die and says he wouldn't have been useful anyway. His power is usually shown when he is unconscious.

The sleeping hunter takes a deep breath and uses his breathing technique which is Thunder Breathing: First Form's stance. Zenitsu propels himself off the tree and soars toward his enemy. Afraid of Zenitsu's ferocious aura, the Spider Demon retreats upward and spits the poison at Zenitsu. vanishes in an instant and dashes around the surrounding area with lightning speed. Unable to track his enemy's movements, the demon retreats back into the house. Zenitsu appears and propels himself off one of the wires. In a lightning-fast series of six dashes, Zenitsu follows the threads until he cleaves the demon's head off.

These scenes are presented in dramatic chiaroscuro. It uses a strong contrast between light and dark to form three-dimensional forms.

LECTURE REPORT 3: VISUAL TYPES AND SHOTS

Different type of Shots & Composition :

1. Close Up :

  • Close Up : The close-up is an intimate moment and it causes us to "catch" the detail and do not include the broader sceneMoving toward or away from a close-up is a common type of zooming. Therefore, this type of shot should emphasize the subject.

2. Frame within a Frame :


  • Frame within a Frame : A well-composed frame within a frame can fracture screen space, add depth, and create visual interest. In this photo, the position of the building is right in the middle and the tree form a frame.

3. Bird Eye View : 

  • Bird Eye View : Also known as overhead shots, is when the POV is placed directly above the subject. It's somewhere around a 90-degree angle above the scene taking place. 

4. Worm Eye's view :

  • Worm Eye's view : The close-up is an intimate moment,It can be used to look up to something to make an object look tall and strong, while the viewer feels powerless. In this photo the shoot is take close to building and from below, so it might let the building look tall and big.

5. Establishing :
  • Establishing :  an establishing shot lets the audience know the setting for the scene they're about to watch Wide shots were often used to establish not just the setting. It give audiences the chance to take in all the splendor and grandeur of a location, while still giving them enough information to process what's going on. 

6. Medium Shot : 

  • Medium Shot : The shot is also called a three-quarters shot which, obviously, frames three-quarters of the character.  This is one of the standard camera angles used to frame a character. It's also known as "waist-shot".

LECTURE REPORT 4: FORE, MIDDLE-GROUND AND BACKGROUND


| Synopsis:

During a forbidden excursion to see the surface world, a goldfish princess which is the daughter of a wizard had trapped in a bottle.  A boy named Sosuke rescued the goldfish. Then, it transforms herself into a young girl with her father's magic and encounters Sosuke, who gives her the name Ponyo.Ponyo longs to become human, and as her friendship with Sosuke grows, she becomes more humanlike. Ponyo's father brings her back to their ocean kingdom, but so strong is Ponyo's wish to live on the surface that she breaks free, and in the process, spills a collection of magical elixirs that endanger Sosuke's village.


| Fore, Middle-ground, background and Design Principles.

From the movie poster the design element that had applied is balance and space. The space is decribed the the distance around the Ponyo, from this we know that Ponyo is live in the sea and can alive in the middle of a deep sea. Next, Ponyo was palced in the middle of the poster it look aesthetically while in the poster. A balanced composition feels right and stable. Balancing a composition involves arranging both positive elements and negative space in such a way that no one area of the design overpowers other areas. Everything works together and fits together in a seamless whole. 
The sence I choose is the sea monster is moving toward Sosuke because they are summoned by Fujimoto to look for Ponyo. The design principle that applied in this sence is Movement which is guiding our eyes to a predetermined path in a composition. As we can see the sea monster is moving with the line and the sea waves altough they are moving slow. They are made out of water so is easily beaten by Ponyo and Ponyo's sister who just drink them up and they can't move beyond the sea.

In this sence also shown the fore which is the stone and the grass, it will be the first view of the picture. Then its come to the middle-ground which is the sea to catch the viewer eyes. and the sky as the picture's background 
The second scene I choose is Ponyo and Sosuke is riding the small boat and looking the refection from the river. The design pronciple that used in this picture is Contrast as you can see the colour of the boat which is red is the complementary colour of  the background which is green. It can differentiate the object and the background while in a 2-Dimension picture.
For the fore that show in this scene is the river which the part that closest to the camera and it allows the viewer to enter the picture at the first, while the middle-ground which is the trees to make up the area in between. The background which is the furtest element in this picture will be the sky.

LECTURE REPORT 5: PERSPECTIVE  



| Synopsis:

YOUR NAME (Kimi no Na wa. 君の名は) A comet appears and mysteriously affects and connects the lives of two teenagers of the same age, a boy, Taki, in the big, bustling city of Tokyo and a girl, Mitsuha, in a country village where life is slow but idyllic. They find for unknown reasons, they wake up in each other's bodies for weeks at a time. At first, they both think these experiences are just vivid dreams, but when the reality of their situations sinks in, they learn to adjust and even enjoy it. Soon they start to communicate and try to leave notes about who they are and what they are doing. But as they discover more about each other and the other's life, they uncover some disturbing hints that their distance is more than just physical and tragedy haunts them.

One-point Perspective : 



I choose a scene of a village rural planting plot, in this scene there is a a set of lines has straight toward one point that will make more sense in a moment and its shown one-point perspective.


Two-point Perspective:



I choose a scene that shown a galaxy, in this scene there are 2 set of parallel lines and make 2 point on the off screen side. That's way shown two-point perspective.

Three-point Perspective:



I choose a scence when the meteorite landed. Its form a linear perspective that utilizes three vanishing points which forms to convey the illusion of depth on a two-dimensional surface.
